Anaheim is moving into a stronger lodging cycle as record tourism, a busy convention calendar, long-term Disney investment and the emerging OCVIBE entertainment district combine to widen the city's demand base beyond traditional Disneyland vacations.
The fresh signal came in a June 23 market report from hospitality advisory firm HVS, which said Anaheim's hotel outlook has strengthened even though 2025 was not the banner year some operators had expected. The reason is less about a single short-term spike and more about the number of demand drivers now stacking up around one of the most visited destinations in the United States.
For American travelers, that matters because Anaheim is no longer just a theme-park booking decision. Family vacations, convention trips, sports weekends, concert travel and Southern California add-on itineraries are increasingly competing for the same hotel rooms, airport arrivals, rental cars and ground transportation.
Record tourism is giving Anaheim a larger base
Visit Anaheim reported this month that the city welcomed a record 26.5 million visitors in 2025. Those visitors generated $6.8 billion in direct spending and a total economic impact of $10.4 billion across Anaheim, according to the destination marketing organization.
That volume gives the local hotel market a stronger foundation heading into the next several years. HVS noted that Disneyland Resort remains Anaheim's core demand engine, but the market is being reshaped by a wider calendar of events, live entertainment, meetings and new development.
The practical takeaway for travelers is that hotel pricing may become more event-sensitive. A midweek Anaheim rate can change quickly when a large convention overlaps with a school-break period or a major Disneyland draw. A weekend that looks like a simple family getaway can also be affected by Honda Center events, concerts and regional sports demand.
DisneylandForward is a long-term travel story
DisneylandForward remains one of the biggest pieces of the Anaheim outlook. The City of Anaheim says Disney has committed to investing at least $1.9 billion in Anaheim over 10 years under the approved plan, while Disney's own project updates show work moving on new attractions and infrastructure.
Disney has said the Avengers Campus expansion at Disney California Adventure will double the size of that land with two new attractions. It has also outlined a new parking structure and transportation hub planned for the east side of the resort, with about 6,000 parking spaces, dedicated shuttle and rideshare areas, security screening and a pedestrian bridge over Harbor Boulevard. Disney says multi-year construction of the arrival project is slated to begin in fall 2026.
That does not mean every visitor should expect a finished new resort experience immediately. The more important travel-planning point is that Anaheim's next few years are likely to include both stronger future demand and periods of construction-related adjustment around access, parking, walking routes and rideshare patterns.
Conventions are filling rooms outside peak leisure periods
Anaheim's meetings business is another major pressure point. Visit Anaheim announced earlier this year that it had secured 142 conventions, meetings and events for 2026, including 76 meetings and 66 conventions. The organization projected nearly 600,000 hotel room nights and about $1.74 billion in total economic impact for Anaheim and Garden Grove.
That convention base is important because it supports weekday hotel demand, especially around the Anaheim Convention Center. HVS pointed to conventions as the market's second major lodging pillar after Disney, helping drive compression for full-service hotels and improving the destination's year-round profile.
For travelers, convention overlap can be more important than seasonality. A family visiting Disneyland, a group attending a trade show and a business traveler meeting clients in Orange County may all be searching the same hotel corridor. Checking the Anaheim Convention Center calendar before booking can be just as useful as checking theme-park dates.
OCVIBE could add a new entertainment reason to stay
The third demand driver is OCVIBE, the large mixed-use district under construction around Honda Center. OCVIBE describes the project as a 100-acre destination centered on live music, dining, open space, offices and year-round gathering places. Its concert hall page says the new 5,000-person-capacity venue is scheduled to open in early 2027.
Visit Anaheim has said OCVIBE's first phase will include the concert hall, Katella Commons, a food-driven market hall, a public plaza, the Urban Park and The Weave office building. HVS said the district may broaden Anaheim's demand mix by adding concert-related stays, weekend entertainment trips and a more diverse visitor profile beyond Disney and conventions.
That could change how visitors compare Anaheim with other Southern California bases. A traveler who once stayed near the beach or in Los Angeles for nightlife may have more reason to sleep closer to Anaheim if a concert, dinner district, sports event and Disneyland day can fit into the same trip.
What U.S. travelers should do before booking
Anaheim's stronger outlook does not mean every room will be expensive all the time. It does mean travelers should treat timing, airport choice and ground transportation as part of one budget.
- Compare dates against Disneyland, Honda Center and Anaheim Convention Center calendars before locking in a hotel.
- Book refundable or flexible rates when traveling during major events, school breaks or construction-sensitive periods.
- Check nearby airports instead of defaulting to one gateway. John Wayne Airport is often the closest major commercial airport for Anaheim, but SNA, Long Beach Airport and LAX can price very differently depending on route and season.
- Price the full arrival plan, including rideshare, shuttle, rental car and parking. Odyssey has planning pages for SNA airport transfers, LGB transfers, LAX transfers, SNA car rental, LGB car rental and LAX car rental.
The bottom line: Anaheim's hotel market is being supported by several demand engines at once. Disney remains the anchor, but conventions and OCVIBE are making the destination more active across the calendar. For U.S. travelers, the smartest move is to plan Anaheim less like a single-attraction trip and more like a major Southern California event market where the best value often goes to people who book early, compare airports and understand what else is happening in town.
